There's no place like home
Jun. 21st, 2005 07:11 amI've never liked my house much. It's a decent house, and there are a few things about it that I like, but I've never really been happy with it. The ceilings are too low, the kitchen layout is wretched (I HATE MY CABINETS!), all of the yard is in front, etc. It was our second choice, and we lost our first choice through the meddling of an unscrupulous realtor. I think part of the problem is that the house has always seemed like a never-ending task list hanging over our heads.
The real issue is that I somehow seem to have missed the fact that this building has become a home over the last six years. This is the place that my girls have lived the longest in their lives. Two years from now, I'll be able to say the same thing. Our neurotic dog has never lived anywhere else. This is the place that gives us shelter from the storms that come, both physical and metaphorical. This is the place I come back to when I've been traveling. This is the space that we are able to share with others, and it is in the sharing that this structure becomes a living, breathing home.
I was supposed to be out of town right now, but the trip was cancelled due to company politics. Therefore I'm spending these few "bonus days" basking in the afterglow of the recent company we've had and in the delightful embrace of my beautiful family.
I am a man truly blessed.

Welcome to the same page! ;)

See? It is all your fault!
