I've never liked my house much. It's a decent house, and there are a few things about it that I like, but I've never really been happy with it. The ceilings are too low, the kitchen layout is wretched (I HATE MY CABINETS!), all of the yard is in front, etc. It was our second choice, and we lost our first choice through the meddling of an unscrupulous realtor. I think part of the problem is that the house has always seemed like a never-ending task list hanging over our heads.

The real issue is that I somehow seem to have missed the fact that this building has become a home over the last six years. This is the place that my girls have lived the longest in their lives. Two years from now, I'll be able to say the same thing. Our neurotic dog has never lived anywhere else. This is the place that gives us shelter from the storms that come, both physical and metaphorical. This is the place I come back to when I've been traveling. This is the space that we are able to share with others, and it is in the sharing that this structure becomes a living, breathing home.

I was supposed to be out of town right now, but the trip was cancelled due to company politics. Therefore I'm spending these few "bonus days" basking in the afterglow of the recent company we've had and in the delightful embrace of my beautiful family.

I am a man truly blessed.

I love your house. It's so big! And I love the master bathroom. I get house-angst too, sometimes. But you're right; it's the memories that make a house a home.

OK, I must admit I really dig the shower. It's nice to have enough elbow-room for company. ;)

I love your house too! Anyone's who has ever been there knows it's a truly welcoming "home."

Besides, couldn't you live in a tent in the Everglades as long as all your girls were there?

Welcome to the same page! ;)

Thank you both, [livejournal.com profile] ladybarnard and [livejournal.com profile] crowitch. I feel like it "becomes" welcoming when it's lit up with other faces.

Yes, as long as all my girls were there, a tent or cardboard box would probably suffice. I suppose I've grown accustomed to being surrounded by women. There are worse things in life... And having Zed around keeps me from drowning in estrogen.

Well I've always felt you get out of a home exactly what you put into it. Your home is welcoming to you simply because you make it so welcoming to others.

Face it, you're a hug addict. And there's plenty of chances to get your fix every single day there. Your wonderful home is due to your wonderful family and that is due to what you have helped to shape them to be.

See? It is all your fault!

I concur!

There are much worse things you could be guilty of though. ;)

{{{HUGS}}} till I can pass one out in person! =)
