A wee beastie slayed!
Sep. 13th, 2006 07:16 amHello all! I know I've been absent, but not a one of you has been missing from my thoughts. This move has done truly odd things to all the rhythms of my life, and I'm just now finally settling into the new patterns. I hope to make LJ a part of that off-beat syncopation that is my life once more. I'll catch you all up on the details over the next few posts. :)
A nasty little bug has been prowling through the house, first taking down the not-so-wee-one. The bug and I sparred once, just as the little one was going down, but my Caribbean home remedy managed to keep me hale and whole: grog. Rum (Bermudan Gosling of late), bitters, a quarter of a lime to prevent scurvy, maybe with a splash of cola. It's a hardship, I know, but somehow, pickling the darned thing out always works if I can catch it before it gains a real foothold.
Next to fall was her lovely mother, who is usually far too stubborn to succumb to such mortal frailties. Last night, with the girls at their viola lesson, I could feel the bug creeping back to me: a scratch in the back of my throat, a lead curtain slowly descending about my brain. It was nearly an hour before I could get home, and I could feel my own immune system losing ground. First grumpiness set in, then a little ache, the first hints of fever. I wasn't sure if I managed to start my delicious medicine in time, but at least I put up a good fight! I even dipped into my sacred stash of vanilla-laced Haitian Barbancourt Reserve Especial just to make sure (to be featured in a later posting with a recipe).
This morning, none the worse for wear, I can proudly say that my bloodstream has been fumigated once more, and this pirate lives to continue the fight against global warming. All hail the Flying Spaghetti Monster! Ramen!
Oh, and the Florida house is under contract once more! Whee!!!

Date: 2006-09-13 04:50 pm (UTC)My remedy certainly is more fun (and doesn't preclude an Airborne aperitif). It also evokes the singing of a favorite Pyrates Royale tune. ;-)

Date: 2006-09-14 03:12 am (UTC)FROMAGE FORTE!
I don't suppose you can fit a food processor in your carry-on, right? Course, they'd probably confiscate the blades in security and wouldn't that make fromaging a bit difficult? ;)
MUST have Fromage Forte added to the horsey duvers on the 23rd. Just MUST!
It's probably bride brain...I cannot believe I've already forgotten this little bit of heaven for the mouth. =/
Oh and silly pirate, you're missed both here and everywhere else!
