The importance of being Quislet
Jan. 10th, 2007 04:38 pmIt's good to be me.
Today was a very full day at work, filled to the brim with ups and downs, annoyances and triumphs. As I shut down my computer, I am reminded that it's good to be me.
I live a wonderful life, filled with amazing people. My life intersects with so many others: brilliant, beautiful, delightful, challenging, affirming, empowering, beloved. I live in a place and at a time in history where I feel a sense of belonging, and where my strengths and talents have monetary value. I have a job that I delight in, that affords me ample time for family, friends, home, and my own constellation of personal interests. I have a past that I am proud of, a present that satisfies, and a future that beckons me on to even finer things. Oh yeah, and someone decided to dip Altoids in dark chocolate and make absinthe with a beetle in it! They're both delicious, having come my way over Christmas. My life rocks!
Any complaint that I could construct is so trivially minor in the face of all that is good that I shall not even try. Why bother? We gather tonight as family to celebrate a dear friend's birthday, and there's a gin & tonic (with lime and bitters, of course) waiting to help walk me through the chosen recipe from my new cookbook. Color me Candide, but if I was going to pick anyone's life to live, I'd pick mine.
