"A happy childhood is a poor preparation for human contact." - Colette (1873-1954)

People suck, but toad in the hole is yummy.

It is also true that people are amazingly wonderful, but somehow this negation of the previous sentence leaves toad in the hole still yummy.

Thus do we conclude the yumminess of toad in the hole to be a universal constant. QED

I have now tried this, as well. My #2 had one at a breakfast restaurant and I was trying to replicate it.

I started frying the egg, sunny side up, then put half of a toasted bagel on top, until the yolk squeezed up into the hole. A criss-cross of bacon and a layer of emmenthaler went on top, and then I put it in the oven to bake a little.

It's better runny, giving you an excuse to swab the plate with bits of cheesy bagel.
