Back from LIPD
Apr. 24th, 2005 09:26 amThe house is heavy with the susurration of sleeping breath. Somehow, I'm the first one awake.
We day-tripped over to Lee Island Pirate Days in Fort Myers yesterday.
ginger_rose almost didn't make it due to some hellish snafu at work (she came home from work at 3am and was online working again by 7am). The gods of data and hardware finally relented, and even the demigod of the application layer (the grossly overfed 7th child of the titan OSI) relinquished its death-grip on her schedule. So it was rush, rush, rush to half-garb ourselves and hit the road.
We arrived an hour after gate to find the most delightful little festival. The place was simply abuzz with healthy Faire noise. The shops were full (great to see after Boynton!), and a good portion of the crowd had that amazed first-timer look on their faces. You never would have known that this was the first time that this Faire had run. The crowds died off into the evening, and the 8:45 pub sing was both raucous and intimate. It was great to see friends from both sides of Florida, even the one that wasn't in garb. :-P The friends that weren't able to join us were sorely missed, too. :'-(
The Privy-Tiers were fantastic, singing on a stage with a big vaulted roof. The acoustics couldn't have been any better without holy water and genuflection. Each voice rang out clear and balanced, simply delightful. It was wonderful (as always!) to see Bob DaVinci (althought this time, he was Bob the two-eyed pirate). The Pyrates Royale were very good (I've never really listened to them before). They had a fantastic rum song that I simply MUST get on CD! Throughout the day there was a lot of cannonfire and pirate ships sailing out into the Gulf. All of this bodes well for LIPD next year, IMHO.

"Drink-a-rum"?
I love their version of "Mist-Covered Mountains of Home".
You can order many of the CDs on their web site... http://www.pyrates.com/

Date: 2005-04-26 03:12 am (UTC)You should expand your collecton to include the Pyrates Royale. They are truly fabulous and have been a long time favorite around our house. I forgot to check to see if anyone in our little group picked up their lastest CD but I have their site bookmarked, of course.
