Life does not suck
Jul. 24th, 2008 10:44 pmMy house is full of teenagers and animals. Buffy Season 2 is playing in the family room where ichiban, niban and ichiban's local beau all bask in the postmodern poetic work of Joss Whedon. Two geriatric dogs wander the ground floor (the vet told me today that Saffron is officially geriatric). The two sibling cats nap upstairs, and
ginger_rose's new kitten patiently waits in the game room to be introduced to the rest of the herd. Yet another sibling cat will join us this weekend. I guess this one's mine. A pilfered mug-full of
ren_tigger's beloved Santa Ema merlot keeps me company as I type.
On the patio, outside my office window, the last coals of tonight's firepit slowly surrender themselves into the darkness. The fire reminded me of so many fires in my childhood, and thus, my father. I called him and we talked through his cloudy sunset on the California coast. We chatted of gardens, pets, dutch ovens and the fires in Big Sur where he lived until recently.
Work is picking up, as are prospects for future work. I have travel booked, both to Minnesota and Bermuda. School only has four weeks left to it. Faire is around the corner, as is ichiban's university and niban's high school. My freezer is full of meat, and two chicken carcasses in my fridge are begging to become stock tomorrow. I managed to clean out the freezer this week and turn four gallons of duck stock into a splendiferous bean soup.
I have marvelous people in my life, and life has been generous to me in so many ways. I even get use out of that Bible degree from time to time, telling dirty Bible stories. Did I ever tell you that one about Ruth & Boaz?
Life does not suck.
