Last night, my daughter finally managed to drag me to her computer to show me the Star Wars Episode III trailer, complete with l33t subtitles. She had been trying to get me to watch it for a few days, and somehow it didn't register in my brain. This time, she came and waited at my elbow until I noticed her. I was working on a friend's PC (hosed from spyware crap he picked up at a warez site), and she convinced me to take a break. My daughters roXXor!!! The trailer with subtitles is hilarious, and is worth a look-see: http://nuar.lunarpages.com/video/SW_mirrors.htm

This got me thinking about how Star Wars has been something special that she and I share. I always carried a bit of a grudge that my parents wouldn't take me to see the original three movies anywhere near the premiere date. When they were re-released in theaters, I decided that the perfect way to resolve this silly bit of baggage was to take my daughter to every Star Wars premiere. I have taken her to the premiere of every Star Wars release since Episode 4 re-released. Episode 5 got me in trouble with her first grade teacher, because the teacher found out that we were playing hooky to go see a movie. I was informed that this was "not an appropriate reason to take a young girl out of school." The teacher was informed that unless my daughter is having trouble in class (which she definitely wasn't), missing a day of class for dedicated father-daughter time was definitely an appropriate reason to skip a day of school. When all the boys wanted to play Star Wars on the playground, she always got to be Leia, because none of the other girls even knew what Star Wars was.

Episode 1 was traumatic, because we moved from Chicago to Florida that month, but the girls came down in time for us to go on opening day. Huge family tradition now. The little one is just starting to watch the "originals" on DVD this year. LOL

I remember seeing Episode IV vividly. My father had gone to see it with a buddy and he was so excited that he came home to get me and took me that same day. Jason has never seen Ep. IV or V in the theaters. Imagine that.
