Back at the daily grind, but it's been a good day. I was out of town for part of last week, and that can often be discombobulating (fun word - look up the globe-trotting etymology!). I returned in time for a beautiful lazy weekend. I missed Sin City, but I got to watch Spanglish, which I highly recommend!

My favorite part of the trip was finding this amazing perfume! On the way out of town, I was sitting near the back of the plane, and this beautiful flight attendant kept walking by me, cloaked in the most delicous scent. I couldn't place what was so familiar about it, but it was exotic, seductive, and yet still delicate. Every time she walked by, I would just close my eyes and inhale the fragrance, instantly transported to a verdant paradise, consumed by a feast of tropical fruit. *sigh* It literally made my mouth water. When I couldn't stand it any more, I asked her what the fragrance was, and she wrote it down for me, as I am miserable with French. I don't have the note in front of me, and I won't subject you to my linguistic butchery here.

This scent lingered on my mind for the entire trip. I could almost taste it, imagining the perfume lingering in [livejournal.com profile] ginger_rose's tresses. Just before I headed back, head swimming with glee, I managed to find a bottle to carry home! Now this gift was bound to be a gamble, as Edie has been known to be rather finicky about perfumes. When I arrived at the house, late Friday night, I nonchalantly put the boxed perfume in her hand, afraid to hope that she would like it. My anxiety was entirely unfounded, though, for she loved it immediately and immediately recognized why it was so familiar to me. She has been wearing a perfume called Ora for almost as long as we have known each other. That bottle comes out only for very special occasions, for it is very nearly dry after 17 years of use. I have always thought of Ora as the scent of pure desire, of animal passion. It is made from the fragrance of a single rare flower that grows only on the island of Rarotonga (in the Cook Islands, near New Zealand). Edie lived there for a time, while I pined for her with the entire planet between us. I have been looking for a way to find another bottle of Ora for years, but the perfumeries of Rarotonga simply don't make it any more. This new perfume is built on that same fragrance, but with a chord of lighter supporting scents that gives it a slightly more civilized feel.

The best part is that I no longer have to imagine the scent on her beautiful hair... *sigh*
