I was grumpy and frustrated last night from losing a tech support battle with DirecTV, so I didn't bother to eat my potato. Not a good decision. Failing to have my nightly potato ensures that I find the dark cloud behind every silver lining. I often joke that it's an old Irish curse on my British ancestors that only a potato-a-day will maintain my generally sunny disposition.

I know the potato thing sounds ridiculous, but it works for me. I don't know if the science behind it makes sense (something about time-released carbohydrates carrying tryptophan to my brain to make serotonin while I sleep), but it takes most of the dips and downturns out of my day. Heck, it could be a big placebo for all I know, but it works and it's just a potato. It's not going to kill me. That, and it's a lot less spooky than the chemical antidepressants my siblings are on. Most of the info is at www.radiantrecovery.com if you're interested in either hearing more or heckling.

So today I find myself ruminating over everything that's unpleasant in my life and soul. I should have remembered that there was an emotional funk floating around these parts and bowed to my Irish curse.

the potato thing might SOUND silly, but I think our bodies know what we need, and when we ignore them, we pay the price. For me, what keeps life even (besides not losing roommates to transstate moves) is my yerba mate. I notice a distinct drop in energy, attitude, sexual drive and general well-being when I forgo my mate for more than a couple of days.

The potatoe thing works. Eat your damn potatoe!

Potato eaten, DirecTV defeated, my new plants are potted and in their new homes. Feeling much much better. :D
